PITTSBURGH ANGEL INVESTS IN BRILLIENCY

Investment to enhance company’s digital platform

Cleveland, Ohio (July 1, 2018) – Brilliency Incorporated closed a pre-seed round of funding yesterday with a $200,000 convertible-debt investment from Pittsburgh Angel, Neal Pollon.  The round was subscribed at 51% with this single investment.  To date the company has raised a total of $350,000 including investments from Glide in late 2014 and FlashStarts in 2015.

“Neal’s investment will allow the company to proceed with developing v2.0 of its digital platform and release a consumer-facing mobile app, continuing the planned evolution of the platform based upon real user experience from v1.0” said Laura Steinbrink, Brilliency’s founder and CEO.

Brilliency’s purpose is to improve relationships between utilities and their customers by harnessing data and delivering value for both the utility and the utility’s customer.  Its v1.0 platform was deployed by Cleveland Public Power, the nation’s 29thlargest municipal utility serving over 65,000 households and businesses, in a two-year pilot that began in 2017 and concludes at the end of this year.  The v1.0 platform includes a consumer-facing web portal that is white-labeled for utilities and accessed by their customers. CPP’s web portal is accessible to its customers by clicking the MyCPP button at www.cpp.org.

“Brilliency’s platform helps utilities evolve – which they need to do in order to keep up with government regulations, failing and aging infrastructure, emerging consumer-owned technology such as IoT devices, solar and electric vehicles.  As pilots for micro-grids, cryptocurrencies and carbon trading abound, what remains missing is the one place consumers can go to access their electric, gas and water accounts.  Brilliency’s platform is the one place where everyone meets, where their data lives, and where and where information is delivered that leads to value and action,” said Steinbrink.

The v2.0 platform will be enhanced based on feedback from the currently over 4,000 v1.0 users who requested a better digital solution from their utilities.  Customers want to understand usage, find new ways to conserve resources including energy, water, and money, and be able to communicate directly with their electric, gas and water utilities about issues that arise – from their phones not the web.  The majority of visits to MyCPP, the v1.0 web portal, occur on a mobile device.
